Re:        Incident Reporting Procedure and Coach Ejections

The UIL requires officials to report all ejections of coaches, players, fans, severe verbal and physical abuse, major disruptions, and any atypical situation that may occur during the course of a game.

With the exception of player ejections, such reports are to be filed by all officials involved in the contest on-line through the TASO web site.

Player ejections need only be reported by the official who ejected the player.

Incident reports are to be submitted directly to the UIL by the officials involved in the contest.

The reports are not to be filtered through or otherwise reviewed by the local chapter leadership prior to the officials filing the report.

When coaches are ejected, they must leave the vicinity of the playing area.

They may not remain on the team bench or in the stands ? even if they are only adult remaining who is available to supervise the students.

If a coach is ejected and there are no coaches or administrators from that school available to supervise the students, that will result in the contest being terminated.

Parents may not assume a coaching role in those instances.

For UIL purposes in football contests, two unsportsmanlike penalties assessed against a coach result in the ejection of that coach, necessitating the filing of an incident report.

Many thanks to all who have submitted incident reports thus far this school year.

Having attended each state executive committee meeting involving appeals of game ejections by coaches, I can report that actions by officials in addressing and penalizing inappropriate behavior are supported by the UIL hearing officer in an overwhelming number of the cases.

Please continue to handle these situations in a professional manner, use good judgment, and be careful in your choice of words ? your efforts will not go unnoticed!
